"High paying careers" don't even pay that much and won't make you rich (depending on what you consider to be rich tbf). Given that for many high paying careers you will be working 80+ hours a week, the pay per hour is unremarkable.

If you grew up poor then fair enough for someone like you earning 6 figures a year might be a huge amount. But if you actually grew up upper middle class and grew up around rich people you'll know that true wealth is far beyond what any high paying job will get. Especially when you factor in taxes and the cost of living in extremely expensive cities where these jobs are based, you don't even have that much left over.

For me, being wealthy is having a net worth in excess of 50 million, which no high paying job will ever come close to achieving even if you went to Harvard and worked for the highest paying companies afterwards.

The only way to become wealthy is to own equity and have a successful exit. Going to Harvard and getting into a high paying career will help you be comfortable and reach the upper middle class, but you will never be rich working in a job no matter how prestigious the company is.
