Pls help me bc my hair looks like shit and I have no clue what's causing this. My hair used to be 80% of my looks :feelswhy:

I had no one else to ask, couldn't figure this out myself, and I can't go to a derm at the moment so I asked chatgpt. It said it could be early miniaturization caused by androgens but if that was the case, I'd be shedding more hair than normal, no?

Originally I thought it was just the iron deficiency & that now it would grow normally, but no

Picture & video of what my hair looks like

TL;DR
  • Hair texture and quality worsened since early 2025
  • Feels dry, wiry, thinner, and doesn’t fall naturally
  • No improvement over time. I'm not sure what to do anymore
Context
  • I'm 17
  • Hair started worsening around January 2025
  • Hair looks thinner and texture is visibly worse, especially in the front. There's this specific patch in the front that just looks visibly worse compared to the rest of my hair
  • Hair seems to be growing in damaged: stiff, wiry, sticks up when touched
  • Texture no longer falls naturally like before
  • Used to have straight hair but now just this area in the front looks wavy/curly while wet?? idfk
Medical background
  • Had low iron for several months
    • Started around May 2025 due to low dietary iron
    • Worsened after a June procedure with more blood loss than I expected
  • August bloodwork: ferritin ~25 ng/mL
  • Supplemented iron & got my ferritin to 81 ng/mL by early November
  • My ferritin is normal now, thyroid normal, vitamin D normal, no other abnormal bloodwork.
Things I already tried
  • No chemical treatments
  • No heat straightening or heat damage
  • Changed shampoo & conditioner multiple times over past months
  • Currently using hydrating Pantene shampoo & a Pantene conditioner with argan oil
  • I avoid hot showers
  • Pillow not changed (same pillow used ~2 years before issues started)
What I avoid doing
  • Hot showers
  • Heat styling
  • Chemical treatments
  • Rough drying
Main question
  • What could be causing this change in hair texture and quality?
  • Is there anything that can realistically fix it?

im gonna save you, but you need to put in the work and genuinely follow the steps. theres a godsend youtube channel for shit like this.

i recommend watching whatever vids that appeal to you, just dont click on his links because he shills his bullshit products nowadays, but he has shampoo, conditioner and other hair product recommendation videos where he doesnt shill so i advise watching those aswell. good luck

all of this is cope, your shampoo and conditioner is whats frying your hair up

what do you want me to use? genuine question. i cant seem to find good products for my hair. never really looked into hair products as much as i shouldve, but if you could help me out & lmk what specific things I should look for, id appreciate it

look for ones free of sulfates and parabens

In that case I don't mind waiting it out & using oils, but do you have any clue why just that specific patch shown in the pictures got dry, coarse, and wiry?
the best oil is olaplex bonding oil, i cant see the pics because im in the uk so its blocked for some reason. conditioner = gives moisture, leave in conditioner = locks in moisture, hair oil = reduces frizz (MUST be light especially for thinner hair or it will make your hair greasy, thats why i recommend olaplex bonding oil, its light but super effective)

exactly willing to bet he doesnt put in something to hydrate his hair post shower either
this is deadass all I own in terms of leave in conditioners. idk if this thing is good or bad. i dont even know when i got this thing. but i dont like how it makes my hair feel if i use it after the shower as a leave in conditioner

dude your hair is fucking healthy, its just on the drier side. it looks like you have medium hair, same as me. i use redken volume injection shampoo + conditioner, olaplex leave in conditioner + bonding oil. i used to have 10x worse hair than you and my hair mogs now its pretty crazy stuff. again dont fall for all these cope methods im seeing these retards put in your thread. watch that guys channel if you dont believe me. but results speak for themselves.

also, sure my products may be ass & theyre drying my hair out, but this is what my hair looked like at 14 when i'd abuse it with those old spice 2in1 products & use those purple shampoos for blonde hair that my mom had lmfao. not saying i had the best hair at 14, but you can see a clear difference compared to now. idk if my issue is entirely because of my current products

My Hair at 14 1

not cope thin hair loses moisture much faster
that makes 0 sense, wtf are you saying? hair loses moisture because the scales of the hair are more open, because theres nothing to seal them, thats where conditioners and oils seal them to lock the moisture in. stop giving out based bodyworks retard advice because its not helping anyone its just more cope thats gonna slow peoples progress down

yeah nigga but now im lowk considering it if its whats really causing my issue
keep coping or take the advice im giving you and you will be saved. i gave you the sauce that i literally use myself, now its up to you what you do w it
