When I was a kid, I remember once my sister and I both wanted to play with the same toy.
I let her take it, but made sure to add: "I currently really want it, but I will give it to you"
So it made me think, even at that age. If I gave her that toy, and told her how "I don't want it anyway", she wouldn't be grateful to me.
My parents called this behaviour of mine "asking for a medal" but I was actually very close to realizing how human interactions actually work.
Its not about actually caring about others, but about them thinking you care about them
A really water thread, I know, but these things happen daily. Nobody truly helps others without expecting smt in return, even if subconsciously
