Here’s Why You Need a Tall Ramus

This guy has a low gonial angle, but an average/little shorter than average ramus:

As a result his front profile looks like this:

Notice how his jaw is square and angular, but doesn’t have that much height. It sits closer to his lips. It’s an odd combo of masculinity and neotony, which works well for his pretty boy aesthetic, but looks non ideal nonetheless.

This guy has a tall Ramus and a higher gonial angle (still ideal/close to ideal):

Notice how his jaw isn’t as square, yet still looks more robust due to more height (sitting farther away from the lips).

Didn’t say anyone did. Just explaining why it’s important. Tall ramus means the mandible body will attach to it lower in relation to the rest of the face, which creates more vertical projection (which, in proportion, looks robust).

Not as wide as I‘d like. Imo bigonial width is more important than ramus length and gonial angle. The first guy‘s jaw looks good from the front because it‘s wide. His side would be better with more ramus length but it‘s still decent. Most people have short ramuses

Width isn’t the only reason his looks good. He has a low gonial angle and good flare of the gonions to make his jaw look angular. But yeah, his jaw is very wide. Width is an easy fix though. You could try fillers at the gonions to see if you like the look, then go with an implant to get a lower gonial angle, widen the jaw, and maybe gonion flare for angularity. You have a good base as your mandible Ramus to body ratio is good, and you have a proportionally tall ramus.
