Al-Qassam, Hamas’s armed wing, aired footage of a July 7 ambush in Beit Hanoun that killed 5 Israeli soldiers and wounded about 20.
The video, first broadcast by Al Jazeera Arabic, shows an Israeli unit advancing in the Al-Zira’a neighborhood near the Erez crossing in the far north of Gaza, before being struck by a hidden explosive. A second, larger blast detonated moments later hitting the rescue force.
A source, reportedly from Qassam’s leadership, told AJ Arabic that fighters planted two devices — a “TV bomb” (a shaped anti-vehicle IED) and a “Thunder bomb” (a heavy anti-personnel charge) — 12 hours earlier on the unit’s expected path. The site was also prepared with anti-personnel mines to hit both reconnaissance and evacuation forces.
The ambush, part of the “Stones of David” operations launched in response to Israel’s “Gideon’s Chariots” offensive, is being described as one of the resistance forces’ most precise and complex attacks of the war.
Spokesman Abu Ubaida said the Beit Hanoun operation was “a blow to the hollow prestige of the occupation army” and warned Netanyahu that keeping forces inside Gaza would be “the dumbest decision” he could make.
