Authorities are investigating and searching for two Asian male suspects in connection with an assault, attempted murder, battery, and possible hate crime against a 40-year-old African-American man in a parking lot after a sporting event.

According to surveillance video and witness statements, the suspects exited their car, claimed to be members of the "Asian Boyz" gang, and accused the victim of owing them money for drugs. When the victim denied knowing them, they hurled racial slurs, then brutally beat, punched, kicked, and shot him twice in the back before fleeing.

Police condemned not only the attack but also the spread of false narratives online. Some far-right bloggers fabricated background stories suggesting the suspects acted in self-defense against an anti-Asian attack, which is untrue. The victim was not targeting Asians and has no criminal history—he is a Pediatric Emergency Room Technician at Temple University Hospital.

Investigators note this is a recurring trend where false claims are made after Asian-on-Black attacks. The Instagram blogger who initially posted the video has since deleted it due to misinformation. The Philly PD Asian gang unit is leading the investigation. Two persons of interest with prior arrests for violent crimes, domestic violence, sexual assault, drug dealing, and gang activity have been identified.

One suspect is the younger brother of Hengjian Ni, who was arrested last year for robbery, rape, and severe domestic violence. The victim remains in critical condition in the ICU.
