Ye he was. People were quite short back in the day. Hitler was 5'9 and was actually several inches above average in height.

in 1878 Stalin is born in Georgia, the average life expectancy is 30.4 years at the time
at 9 he goes to school as the first person in the history of his family and starts learning Russian
at 12 he becomes an atheist
One day Stalin and some friends, including Grisha Glurjidze, lay on the grass in town talking about the injustice of there being rich and poor when he amazed all of them by suddenly saying: “God’s not unjust, he doesn’t actually exist. We’ve been deceived.”
at 17 he becomes a poet and is auto-praised as a new literary talent by the most famous poet in Georgia's history Ilia Chavchavadze
at 23 he works on an oil rig owned by Rothschild, after the company refused to give the workers a raise, the warehouse where Stalin worked 'caught' fire and was burnt to the ground
at 24 he is imprisoned:
His fellow prisoners, whether enemies who later denounced him in exile or Stalinists who
praised him in offcial books, agree that Stalin in prison was like a frigid sphinx: “scruffy,
pockmarked, with a rough beard and long backcombed hair.” His fellows were most struck
by “his complete calmness.” He “never laughed with an open mouth, only smiled coolly”
