The Ramayana is an old myth based on truth, the interpretation and written events we have of it has been passed down orally for many centuries and changed as a result, from people who had views as such. Even in the west you will see representations of gods being used to depict a tribe or group of peoples. I think there is def some truth if every scholar, occultist, and claimed wise person is claiming haniman as being tamil or a representation of the tamil people, which isnt even a bad thing, Hanuman is highly respected and greatly adored.
