I had my herbst appliance installed for a month now, my dentist said that it works but stimulating bone growth in the mandible by “stretching” it out when your mouth is closed/chewing. I want to make the most of it, what should I do? Would having a lot of testosterone and dht help me in any way?I’m 16 turning 17:feelswhy:

it just pushes lower jaw forward and gives your top jaw a little bit of backward force but you cant really do anything just try not to accidentally break it or something

Fuck, I hope I don’t get more recessed than I already am, my dentist said that the results will be noticeable on my chin and jaw but I’m not too sure since I’m already 17. Hopefully I’m a late bloomer or something, I don’t feel like my age at all lmao

are your wisdom teeth in? that might tell you something about your age
it might cause just a little recession (practically unoticable) so just ask your ortho if there is anything he can do to prevent further maxilla recession but dw too much about it

Thanks dude, still have all my wisdom teeth and they haven’t erupted yet, I asked my ortho and he said that I’ll probably need to remove them because there’s no space for them (his words), I really don’t want to get them removed and risk getting my face all fucked up, you know if there’s something I can do about it?

it should be fine, but since your wisdom teeth havent erupted yet you might still have a bit of jaw growth left underway
wisdom teeth extraction is no big deal, wont really change your face as much as people say it does, so dont worry. try telling your ortho about how you feel about the recession and ask if there is anything he can do, update me on what he said if you can since I also want to ask my ortho about maybe pushing my jaws forward but i dont see him for a whike

My herbst treatment was supposed to last 6 months, but there was a complication and it will probably be about 8 months, I think the only thing he can do for me is the herbst appliance but I’ll ask him in December, thanks bro
