How can I make my music be more modern so I can sell records?

I just want one hit song. I don't like most modern music. To me, it's like what I hear when I go to the gym. Either a thumping dance beat with high pitch screeching female vocals, or unintelligible rap music. Is this what most people like? I enjoy more like the Folk music and Western Swing. I want to be current but not lose my authenticity.

Some of my songs i call "icel Country music" genre.
