hi,
ive read some threads about focal length and all that. I dont have a selfie stick or anything and I figure the mirror has no distortion so i should use that, which i tried, but ive asked my friend and he says that my picture (iphone 14 zoomed in on face in mirror to max) fucks with my face, makes my lips looks really weirdly small (for example). So is that distortion idk. Whats the best way to accurately measure proportions like FWHR etc using a phone, not buying a fucking professional camera.

I tried selfie camera and back camera both from arms length idk was also a bit weird.
thanks

Selfies are the worst form of photos to take.

Mirror pictures/videos are usually very accurate (if you invert them), but the only issue is that you can never get a direct neutral angle shot, because obviously the phone would cover your face if you try take a neutral shot, so you always have to film below your jaw (which will make certain features look stretched/larger) or above your head (which will make jaw and shit narrower), so your proportions can get a bit distorted (though I would still say this is relatively accurate if you can get the positioning right).

Back-cameras are usually the most accurate and this is basically how you will look like in real life. Arms length away there should be very little distortion, though, if you are trying to measure ratios n shit then better to be secure and get a professional photo taken. Just go to a place that takes photos and get one taken. I would argue though there isn't much point in measuring ratios cuz good ratios and such are immediately noticable to every single human being. Good ratios dictate a good looking face, and every human has the ability to dictate whether a face is good looking or not by looking at it once cuz they subconsciously pick up all the ratios. I would say just look at ur back camera pic/video and see if you look good or not.

thanks bro. When you say invert you mean the default option in phone cameras that makes me look unsymmetrical as shit? not like the snapchat filter which doesnt invert.
Here is a picture I took like 70 cm or something from a mirror.

Here is a picture I took like 2 meters from a mirror and zoomed in on the face. Where do I select exactly for the most accurate measurement? Because I get 1.72 and 1.81 respectively

and what about mirrors vs back camera at arms length? specifically for proportions. I read mirror has no distortion but because u cant put it in front of ur face at a neutral angle without hiding your face you are forced to taKE IT at an angle which messes things up. And then back camera I think isnt a good focal length I read somewhere 50 mm+ is good but phones dont have that. I cant go to a professional I want the best with my phone
Here is back photo arms length obviously inverted

What u are saying about the mirror is correct and I agree, cuz it forces you to take it at an off angle.

When I mean invert, I mean flipping the image. Because when you take photos of yourself with the selfie camera or mirror camera, the photo/video will come out as it does when you look into the mirror in real life. But in real life, people don't see you like that, they see you flipped.

Back camera should have very little distortion esp if u have a decent camera with iphone or something. There is no way it will distort that much even at arms length. If ppl cant accept the back cam is how they look like then its cope at that point. If you want, taking it landscape with backcam I found makes the image look less narrow/distorted.
