I trim my fingernails every 1-2 weeks, and every time it sucks, because I become hypersensitive to every texture I touch, particularly fabrics/fibrous materials, which leads to me spasming and the hairs on my arms all standing up, and it makes me more prone to "episodes" of hypersensitivity. Is there any way I can stop this/lessen it? I can't trim my fingernails more often to desensitize myself because the less time there is between trimmings the less pronounced it is, and I don't want to trim them more than once a week because that's stupid. I have mild sensory processing disorder from autism, I got over most of it just by getting older but I still can't wear certain clothes and sometimes I have to get rid of clothes because of it, and sometimes thinking about my clothes too much triggers it.

Thank God every day you were not born in the slums of Mumbai.

Helped me stop peeling off skin from my hands and feet atleast, but maybe a different thing.
Just generally improved my mood and brain function, I can't describe it TBH.

I never trim them anymore but use a file. Don't care if it's gay or whatever.

I assume you're describing a compulsion, I don't know exactly what causes my sensory processing problems, along with my autistic tendencies, but the hypersensitivity is a very deep-rooted thing it seems, I get an instant response (shudders and hair standing up) and a strong feeling of discomfort if I dwell on "complex" textures like tight-knit polyster, silk, denim that is smooth and worn, among other things. I don't know how to explain it well and it's entirely irrational and bizarre. It can happen from me feeling them or hearing the sound of them move or thinking about them being touched.

How often do you file them? I do not like files because the end is initially dull which is absolutely awful, it's like everything I touch has been resuced to 144p resolution but there is a slight ai google deep dream morphing dog filter and jpeg crust over everything subtly in hd but my brain amplifies it to painful volume with a bad mindset.

Every day/every other day tbh. I use the rougher part of the file first and then the other side is more fine for the final retouch. I got a file with 7 different sections too that allows you to get them perfect.

Imagine using an orbital sander to do it.
