do the math my friend

Hey man! Have you tried being in a school group/group activity at school? I have some friends from my football team, and others from my french class. Be humble, don't overthink things, and have an open mind. Obviously join a group about something you are interested in.

On the topic of online friends. What you want to do is join the Discord server of a YouTuber you like (pick one you actually like, because most likely that is what the server's members will talk about) and start talking there. Say whatever, like literally whatever crosses your mind. The secret is that even though a lot of servers are full to the rim with thousands of members, very few actually hang around those servers. Therefore you'll realize that there's only a handful of people that are actually active members of a community in that server. If you become a "regular", as I call them, the other regulars will notice and you will have lots of interaction with them. After some time talking in public, they may add you as friends or DM you, or you can try DMing them. But don't be a creep and try to force social interaction, friendships happen NATURALLY.

Last thing. Friends are not really that useful. You are in HS, so am I. And I've realized there are very few people here that are worth befriending. Why? Because all they do is use social media, go to class, date girls/boys, go to parties on weekends, etc. When I realized that having friends is, a lot of the time, overrated I became more aware of my time, and what did I need to do with it. Because having friends consumes A LOT of time; time spent going to the mall, partying, hanging around, skipping classes, doing basically nothing.

Hope it helped :)

The online parts works mostly on forum type sites. Discord, Reddit and this place are some examples.

They may be different. And there is nothing wrong with that, but you need to take a choice.

Do you want to have friends, even if that means being internally bored most of the time?
Or
Do you want to invest your time on other, more productive stuff?

For example, "I stop trying to chase friends and status, instead I use that mental energy on thinking about what do I want to do with my life (college/job)"

Change your mindset. Stop being desperate about things you don't have. Let go. Flow.
