I once remember trying to learn kanji but I gave up in 2 minutes.I learnt german in 8 months but german has many similarities to English so it wasn't that hard while Mandarin is considered to be one of the hardest languages to learn for English speakers. There are over 50,000 characters completely different grammar rules. I wonder how so many JBWs learn to speak Chinese so fluently.

The problem with german movies and rap in particular is they are a very urban ghetto slang of german with lot of Turkish and arab words so initially it might be hard to understand

This dude isn't a passport bro. And Chinese is very easy to learn aside from reading and writing. Chinese grammar is very easy. I mean, I can speak well enough but I can't read it.

It's bullshit. It just sounds like it would be difficult to learn. Grammar is so simple. There are no tenses and no prefixes or suffixes. They only say that because it sounds alien to English. The only thing that makes spoken Chinese difficult are the four tones but you can still fuck em up and get by with context. Oh, there's a whole lot of measure words in Chinese too but if you don't know the proper measure word for any given thing you can just use "ge" and it will still be grammatically correct.

Seriously, I was conversational well beyond mere transactions at only 3 months in China. I didn't know a single word of Chinese when I first set foot on the ground.

I fear that the Japanese culture we see throughout the media is all fake. There's the meme about people fantasising Japan for doing regular things but "its in Japan, Anime UwU ".

Both countries definitely have a rich culture (and richer than many European countries).

Japan seems like it would be a great place to visit.

Mandarin is easy you just need consistency tbh. I'd say you could have like a B2 level in 12 months of consistent learning
