True tbh. I only watch the highlights most of the time. I only watch full games if my favourite team is in a derby or its a final/semi final of a majoe tournament (eg world cup, cl)

I guess the only way you get emotionally invested to a team is that if you watched that team since you where a kid. That’s how I got emotionally invested in hockey many years ago.

Watching it can be boring sometimes. Not common but can happen. Especially in person. I like listening to the radio transmissions or stream nowadays, it's better because they know they have to entertain since by definition you can't see the game

Even if they know it’s a business that ultimately wants to rip them of their money, and usually gives zero shit about them, the sense of identity and shared emotion still feels real to those guys.

Also, a lot of fans aren’t deluded, they genuinely enjoy the strategising , mentality, or watch the sport because they play it themselves.

Many people don’t understand why others enjoy throwing or watching darts either.
But for many people the interesting part is watching how people perform and react under pressure, and that’s what makes it somewhat appealing.

When I watch I try to think about solutions on how to impact the game, or where the next few passes should ideally go, and that keeps me invested.
I also try to take inspiration from it for my own play.

Of course, some games are just blatantly boring, and then you just switch off and do something else at the same time
