How do scientists and engineers believe in afterlife?

When your mind is trained in a logical and rational manner it is impossible to believe in something like afterlife.
I am not questioning religion. Religion could just be one way of living your life. It’s not about true or false.

However the concept of afterlife really bothers me.

Why is it that these same logically and rationally trained minds were screaming at the tops of their lungs for people to get the COVID vaccine? These same brilliant minds were also first in line for it and got the whole series.
