How do some males do well in life despite lacking looks?

I know couple of below average/borderline ugly dudes that somehow seem to thrive in life. They have relationships, big social circles, good reputation, do well in college/decent jobs.... How is that even possible, considering such a big disadvantage??? Where do they get the will to live from?

Talking about 3-4/10 looks rate males for the reference.
