When I'm working out at the gym and I see a potential person I could be friends with, I just go up to them and compliment them and ask trivial questions: “How much do you work out at the gym? What do you usually eat for muscle growth?” That sort of thing. After that, you just try to move the conversation into general topics and find common interests.

If you are in good shape, people will treat you better, accordingly. You gotta be good at something. Then you exchange socials and you text him the next time you go to the gym and you go together. And you do that all the time with other gym members. If you are an interesting person who can talk and knows a lot of interesting things, it will be easier for you, but it comes with practice.

For example, it's the same in school. You come up with a compliment, ask what class you're in, what course you're in, and try to find common topics. Humor will help you a lot.

There's actually a general correlation here between approaching a girl and approaching guys.
