I was passing by a loggers place and saw a wood pile in the corner freshly chopped. How old does this tree look and what is that white substance. I asked him
How old the tree. He is just Randomly ran his hand across the log and said 15-16 years. I know you tell the trees age by its rings but where are they? I don't see any and When I asked if he planned to turn it into furniture he laughed and said "No sir, this wood's too brittle and prone to insect attacks. That white stuff you see is mold. It's only good for firewood and then he said But if you want good furniture wood I can sell you some teak at a decent price you can send it to a carpenter and get something nice made.

I read when i was a kid that you could tell a tree's age by the number of concentric circles the trunk had

Not sure if true.
