TMJ disorders can affect the way you look.

What determines the way your side profile looks is bones + muscle. A TMJ disorder only affects the muscle, which is the least important part. Changes won't be drastic.
In a few (very rare cases), someone may have a bad amount of joint space for the mandible to move around, so they naturally rest it in a less forward position than ideal. In that case, the tmj is causing the person to look more recessed. But, again, it's not very common.
