For being at number 4 in population, you never seem to hear anything about it and you would think there isn't many people that live there. for a country supporting a population it's size you think you would expect more to come out of there.

You could literally wipe Indonesians off of planet earth and nothing of value would be lost, nobody would even notice.

1. Java is ideal for cheaply increasing population (highest yielding rice crop conditions in the world)

2. No real geographic reasons to get into global conflicts (too far from the busy part of Asia, near the sparsely populated and fairly self sufficient Australia

3. Large enough population to have their own ecosystem and not need to look to project soft power (like Korea for example)

4. No real historical ties to large European superpowers (only really to Holland) so no real reason to mass emigrate
