When you get past the late novice/early intermediate level, your work capacity starts to exceed your recovery capacity, so you can't go all out all the time and expect to lift with the kind of frequency you need to make decent progress, especially natty. It works if you're blasting roids or you're a novice who's not on a diet. Taking the last set of each exercise to failure is good, though.This, I never understood doing just certain amount of reps. I do that in the gym, usually if I'd go for failure every set, I couldn't do more than just a few reps in the last set, but if it comes to home workouts, I indeed go for the failure as bodyweight exercises are a little lighter, so I can do decent amount of reps in the last set too, despite going for failure from the beginning.
