How many times are you supposed to exfoliate your skin

I exfoliate my face 1x a week for body I don’t do it often
Same with scrubbing off dead skin cells and stuff
So I’ll start doing it soon
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s exfoliate, rub off dead skin cells and then apply body wash and then you can optionally shave afterwards

I've done it maybe two times in the last 20 years. Working out alright so far.
