Interesting study. I can't really comment whether it's valid or not, so comments are welcome.
How much your daily calorie deficit can be if you want to lose fat and not muscle.
The formula is weight in kilograms * body fat ratio * 69 kcal.
For example, if you weight 80 kg, have 20 body fat %, then it's 80 * 0,2 * 69 = 1104 kcal deficit per day.
If this example person has a maintenance level of 3000 calories a day, he can eat 3000 - 1104 = 1896 calories a day at minimum to lose mainly fat. If he eats less he will lose muscle. Of course getting enough protein and lifting are advisable.
