Problem with lying, is keeping the record straight. So you got to make sure the record is straight... Which requires to put in active effort into it.

you dont have to keep what you told who straight if you just tell them a version of the truth spun to benefit you rather than constructing a lie form whole cloth

but like I said, compulsive lying is waaay too far
you want to pepper in lies to get things to go your way, you don't want to be constantly lying, that's just stupid and will end in ridicule or worse.
