I have a bit of tmj and have chewed on one side for years. One side of my face is recessed while the other is well developed. My face is very asymmetrical. How should one bring this up to a orthadontist so that they take it seriously and agree to do surgery?

An ortho won't fix this, consult with a maxillofacial surgeon

Why wont a ortho fix this?
what surgery do you assume you need?

an orthodontist will align your bite and straighten teeth often with no care about the underlying structural misalignments so wow great you now have a good bite and straight teeth but your jaw is still crooked, a maxillofacial surgeon performs jaw and tmj surgery to fix the actual misalignments

I assume i may need a bimax because of my reccessed maxilla on one side and also for my teeth to get aligned to correct my jaw alignment. Ive been trying to figure out whether a muscular imbalance/asymetry could be the case also so i may try some facial exercises along with that.

But yeah i just assumed orthos would correct jaw misalignment in order to fix my tmj.

they can't if its a structural issue, you need a maxillofacial surgeon in that case, preferably a blackpilled one like Mirco Raffaini
