How to cold approach at the gym or uni

I've actually cold approached many times.

I knew this latino guy from my local gym (I was 19, he was in his late 30s) and we always spoke about foids and hookups together. Anyway, he was a nice guy but a bit of a social retard so his understanding of social dynamics was slightly autistic.

This one time, he was egging me on to cold approach a girl (she was probably around 19) but I refused so he went up himself (he prided himself on speaking to as many people as possible at the gym). To be honest, it was awkward as fuck. He actually looked like a complete freak in the middle of the gym with this teenager. Honestly, I could tell that she was slightly irritated but pretended like I didn't notice.

Even so, I felt pressured to prove that I could cold approach so I casually struck up a conversation with her on a separate occasion (she was a new face). The interaction felt natural but it was awkward because it seemed unusual asking for her number. Of course, the latino guy cold approached her once again and she started coming less and less.

Point is, you gotta think this kind of thing through. There is a fine line between boldness and acting like an antisocial freak.
