How to fix recessed maxilla

I am 16 and I have a recessed maxilla and a partially recessed mandible. I got off braces and elastics a year ago and now have TMJ problems and a restricted airway. I found out about palate expanders, which would help expand my airway, fix my poor quality of sleep, and progress my maxilla. I have now visited 2 different orthodontists, both of whom denied me a palate expander. They said that it wouldn’t help me with either of the problems, and recommended me to wait for surgery, which I can’t even do because I am not old enough for it. I am wondering what I can even do?

If the orthodontists denied you a palate expander it's because you don't have a narrow palate and getting MSE/palate expander would just fuck up your face if you don't need it... Exhibit A:

Yeah, it's pretty much over at 16, if he was younger maybe, orthodontics or a reverse headgear could've helped, but at that age his maxillary sutures are already pretty close to being completely fused.

Well yeah... but statistically speaking, they're probably already mostly, if not completely, closed. Don't see the point in giving him unlikely hopes, but even if they were still open to any meaningful degree if an orthodontist suggested he waits to get surgery, then likely the recession is moderate-to-severe, no amount of natural development will solve that.

**Of course I'm speaking purely from an aesthetics standpoint, there are more than likely non-surgical solutions to his functional issues, but nothing to be done outside of surgery for recession.
