Tretinoin/retinoids and azelaic acid (preferably prescription strength) are the best things for scars/ hyperpigmentation, generally speaking. Hydroquinone works well too but cannot be used nonstop for long periods of time. You can also use niacinamide, kojic acid, etcetera but they typically don’t work as well as Tret and AZA combined.

Whatever actives you choose, be sure to use SPF consistently- UV damage makes scars/dark spots worse. Also, keeping your skin moisturized and well hydrated (low inflammation) helps the appearance of dark spots.
