Very simply, you should only get palatal expansion if your maxilla is not wide enough to comfortably fit into your mandible.

Your maxilla should be about 5mm wider than your mandible. This maximizes the comfortability of your bite and health of teeth.

NEVER just expand your maxilla without understanding these measurements. You will fuck yourself for life.
