Surgeons

You need a plan before going there, but ultimately you will have to trust them
I'm not even saying you have to blindly follow the first guy you meet, you can ask different ones

Exactly this. If you come to this forum you'll end up thinking you need Leg Lengthening Surgery to compensate for a receding hairline.

The best bet is to contact 3 well known surgeons with side profile shots, then those same 3 with scans.

My Doctor told me to be confident, my jaw is fine.
My Orthodontic surgeon told me I'm right, my jaw is rather small and narrow, and it could potentially benefit me to get Bimax.
My local Maxillofacial surgeon I contacted said I would most definitely benefit from Bimax
The other Maxillofacial Surgeon from Europe said I would most definitely benefit from Bimax.

I took that as needing Bimax.

I can tell you.

A bimax isn't for what you think. A bimax moves only the upper and lower teeth forward. This is a lefort 1 for the upper teeth, and a BSSO for the lower teeth. If your occlusional plane is at a retarded angle facing down, they do something called a counterclockwise rotation to make it more level, which usually improves the gonial angle at the same time as making the occlusional plane more straight.

A genio is usually needed at the same time for aesthetic purposes. If your occlusion is good with no under or overbite, your teeth are aligned with the upper maxilla and not recessed somehow behind it, you won't need a bimax.

A genio is for if you have a good occlusion, but a flat or non projecting chin. Asians, and black individuals can benefit from a genio. An overprojecting chin is a Caucasian trait and often with some white women it's actually too big resulting in what looks like a witch chin on women.

Again, I can tell you based on pictures.

Post pics... although MOST people who need a bimax and started out with a recessed lower jaw tend to have weak chins and need a genio as well.
