Now that I have made a thread uhh ... "If you want to sound like rebzyyx, luvwillow, etc in FL Studio, here is a free vocal preset <3"
so if you don't want to use a shitty beat off YouTube, then alas, I will spill all the "sauce".
Here is a reference video of the sound we are going for ... luvwillow - Scars 4 u
and here self-produced beat I am using for a song in the works (currently I am working on adding vocals lol) <3
OBS MAKES EVERYTHING SOUND LIKE SHIT BTW
Step #1. Prerequisites:
In FL Studio, open up your piano roll and utilize the minor scale preferably, but if you're going for a more happy-esque sounding beat, you can use the major scale. Some of my favorites are ... C# // F // F# // G // G# and A#.
If any of this sounds confusing to you, then in the piano roll, click the little arrow located to your top left, then "view", then scroll down to "scale highlighting" and set your scale. And FL Studio will show you all the notes in the key of that scale (the long white rows in the piano roll)
Step #2. Lay Down A Large and Spacy Ambient Pad:
My go-to VST for this is Nexus2 ...
you can find free downloads for VSTs including Nexus2 here: https://g-meh.com/library/windows
- In Nexus2, in the "Epic Pads" section, you will find two presets, "Airwave TranceSaws 1" and "Airwave TranceSaws 2", these are my go-to presets for this sort of sound, and many other scenecore/hyperpop artists used these two exact presets in their music.
- NOW WITH THAT, you can lay down some Minor/Major 7th or 9th chords (and if that's too complicated for you, just ask ChatGPT for a rebzyyx/luvwillow chord progression)
- THEN, use an EQ such as Fruity Parametric EQ 2 to cut out the low-end (below 200hz) and boost the high-end like this:
- Lastly, slap some OTT on that bitch and set the depth anywhere from 60% to 100% depth, and turn down your mixer volume to around -8.0 to -13.0 decibels
(OTT is a free VST you can download here https://xferrecords.com/freeware)
It should sound somewhat similar to this when you're finished:
Step #3. Add Top Notes to Your Pad:
In my case, I just layered my top notes one octave up, this will require a little bit of trial and error on your part to find out what sounds good.
Here is what that sounds like:
Step #4. Layer Your Pad with an Arpeggio/Sequence:
- Once again, my go-to VST for this is Nexus2, In the "Arpeggios" section, you can find presets such as Sparkling Water (my favorite), Sinebells, Clockworks, and Krystalline, these are my go-to presets.
- For a more "dancy" effect, in the Nexus2 VST, you can click on "TG" and enable a trance-gate by clicking the little power-on button.
- Then, I did my basic EQ work (cutting out the low-end and boosting the high-end), added some OTT at 60% to 100% depth, and Fruity Delay 3 on the default preset at a 50% mix.
- Once you're finished, set the mixer volume level at around -6.0 to - 12.0 decibels as you want this sound to be slightly louder than your pad.
- Lastly, I laid down chords ranging two octaves in addition to following the root notes of my chord progression as well as my top notes, if you need help then ...
Here is what that looks/sounds like:
Step #5. Add Your Sub-Bass:
- Here is a sub-bass I commonly use in Serum for download: https://www.mediafire.com/file/qt9brjpsx3vsqod/bbcbass.fst/file
you can also use a bass preset in Nexus2 if you don't want to do all that, but you should probably use this Serum preset ...
- Follow the root notes of your chord progression
- Then, Add OTT at around 20% to 40% depth and an EQ that cuts out the entire mid-end as well as leaving a little bit of high-end for presence, and set your mixer volume level anywhere from -9.0 to -21.0 decibels depending on how low you want your bass to be.
I don't think a video explanation is needed here ...
Step #6. Layer Your Bass With a Punchy Bass:
- Some of my favorite presets for this sort of Sound In Nexus2 are BA Juno Pulse+ and Crushed Bass, you can find these presets in the "Bass" section of the VST.
- Then lay down something like this following the root notes of your chord progression.
- For the mix, I added the "Kick" preset found in Fruity Parametric EQ 2 at 100% mix level and that's it. As well as also turning down the volume anywhere from -5.0 to -8.0 decibels should suffice
With all of these elements combined, we should be looking at something that sounds like this:
... If your music sounds like shit despite following all of these steps, DON'T WORRY, we haven't added our master effects yet
Step #7. Add a Background Lead.
- Just watch this video, it's easier that way ...
- For my mix, you want to use OTT at around 80% to 100% depth, Fruity Reeverb 2 at default preset, an EQ cutting out the low-end, and you want to sidechain your lead in ShaperBox ... (use this preset in ShaperBox: )
- Turn down your mixer volume anywhere from -6.0 to -12.0 decibels.
- Here is the Serum preset I used for the lead: https://www.mediafire.com/file/nbccs6ux2oebkki/bglead.fst/file
although I'm pretty sure any Square/Saw wave with some Delay should work
Step #8. Add your Main Lead.
- You can look up Dance-Lead tutorials for Happy-Hardcore/Scenecore if you don't want to use the NPC-esque lead sound I am using.
- This is admittedly going to take some trial and error to find out what works for you, but in my case, I used the bottom three notes of my chord progression (the root note and the two notes above the root note)
- Once again, it's far easier for you to just watch this video and take what you can get from it ...
- For the mix, you want to add OTT at around 60% to 100% depth, and an EQ cutting out the low-end and boosting the high-end, as well as turning down your mix to around -1.0 to -4.0 decibels.
I'm beginning to lose interest in typing this thread, so here is the self-created Serum preset that I used for the lead, it's just a saw wave + square wave with some effects: https://www.mediafire.com/file/zlgo1ceg6uu24uj/mainleadpreset.fst/file
AND IF YOU MADE IT THIS FAR, CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE JUST CREATED YOUR FIRST MELODY VRO <3
Here is what that should sound like:
OBS makes the audio sound like shit, but here is what the end product TRULY sounds like:
Now let's move on to the drums ...
Drums:
- Doing EDM-esque sounding drums takes an IQ of about 85 to learn ... Here are my mixer presets and a uhh drumkit you will need ...
