How to make dyed hair look good ?

I have naturally blonde hair and I’ve dyed it dark brown before and I dyed it light brown today and every time I dye it just looks peculiar. I couldn’t tell you why it looks weird but it just does. My coloring should fit brown hair but it looks completely different than people with naturally brown hair. I don’t know if it’s my thick hair type or something else but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
