A game is considered 'retro' when it is 15 years or older.

As games get older they go up in price. Water I know.

But some people just sell these fucking things or give them to charity for basically free so this is a heads up.

Platforms that are good to invest in
  • Wii
  • Xbox 360
  • PS3
Why these 3 platforms? These platforms are the 7th generation and are now starting to become 'retro'. Soon these games will significantly go up in price within the next decade or so.

If you look at PS2 and Xbox Original (the 6th generation) you can already see some games are becoming expensive AF and after monitoring them for the past few years I can assure you they have been going up in price:

Silent Hill 2 - Original Xbox

Current market price on Xbox - £38
Current market price on PS2 - £70 !!!!

The type of games to look out for when investing

When looking at games that might increase in value over time look for:
  • The quality of the game. Good game = people wanna play it ∴ people wanna buy it. (Simple equation)
Currently on the Nintendo Wii, most Nintendo games are worth least something.

Example) Mario Kart Wii is currently £18 - £25. Baring in mind this game sold 37 million copies and isn't exactly uncommon.

Many Nintendo games on the Wii are now at least £20.

  • The amount of games produced and sold
Sometimes games with low sales count will sell for a lot of money.

Rarer game = more expensive :feelsuhh:

Example) Fatal Inertia was a shitty racing game that released to poor reviews. The low sales makes it quite sought after. Currently the game is being sold for a minimum of £65. Will likely go up in the future.

  • Does the game have a dedicated fan base?
As previously mentioned the Silent Hill games on the 6th Generation are gradually becoming more expensive and becoming rarer. This is partly due to Silent Hill having a large and dedicated fan base. People want to buy these games!

When looking at the 7th Gen Silent Hill games you can see they are already going up in price.

Example) Silent Hill: Downpour + Silent Hill HD Collection

The PAL version of this game is already being sold for £50 at a minimum.
The HD Collection was selling for £20 about a year ago. Since then it is now being sold for a minimum of £35.

  • Games exclusive to a platform/generation of consoles + games that are backwards compatible

Example) The Skate series.

A beloved series that only released on 7th gen. They are backwards compatible with later consoles which also gives people an inattentive to buy them.
Skate 1 + 3 are currently quite cheap being no more that £10 each however Skate 2 is at the minimum £20 due it being less common.

Since the shutdown of the online stores on the 7th Gen consoles it has only caused the prices of many games to shoot up as now many games are inaccessible to most people (even through emulation).

Although not the quickest re-sale method, it has potential to make good money in the future with many of the games I have just mentioned having a 75% price increase within the last year alone.

Personally made at least £200 in the last year. I know it's not amazing and I make 4x that from wage slaving for the month.
Just one of my current re-sell methods :y'all:
