Hello, I am here today to tell you HOW to overcome derealization, the feeling of everything sucks or feeling like your life is very fucking ass in every single aspect.
I will mention a few things beforehand.

1: I will not fully explain what it is, as if you think this thread will help you, you most likely already know, and if you don't know and it helps you, well results alone are good you don't need explaining.

2: In order for this to work you have to do it exactly as I say. No shortcuts.

3: It's a time consuming process, but you have to not try saving the sinking ship, instead we will build a new one.

Step zero (ONLY AND ONLY IF YOU CAN FINISH IT)

CLEAN YOUR ROOM / APARTMENT / HOUSE.
Living in FILTH will fuck up your mind.

STEP ONE: REALIZING YOUR MAIN PROBLEMS / CONCERNS / WHY YO LIFE SUCKS

One thing people often forget, is the fact that in order to fix your life you firstly have to know what to fix.

This could be:
a messy life/lifestyle
an unhealthy lifestyle
no financial freedom/stability
etc.

BUT WHAT PEOPLE OFTEN FORGET, is that trying to fix your life by simply establishing your main issue and not its reason is like trying to fix a broken tire without firstly extracting the nail that is stuck in it.

EXAMPLE

Problem: You have no friends because you find people boring.

TRYING TO FIX IT WITHOUT FINDING THE REASON:
You have no friends > You research online how to get people to like you > You apply that > You hope that just talking to people will get you friends > You get a few > Only 1 or 2 of them are people you actually like > You get bored of them at some point / They move away > You still have 0 real friends.

FIXING IT BY FINDING THE REASON:
You have no friends > You start thinking why > You then pinpoint the fact that you actually do have a few, but you don't consider them friends > Why > Cause they are boring > Why > Cause they can't talk about interesting subjects > You also can't so you are unable to carry the convo > You read stuff about interesting subjects > You find out where people that are into those subjects hang out (ex: you learn about literature and go to a book club) > You go there > You have a high chance of making long lasting friendships because 90% of the people there are into things that you are into > You rinse and repeat for different hobbies.

HOW CAN YOU ACTUALLY DO THIS?
Problem listing.

Basically spend a WHOLE DAY , and I truly mean a whole day, just writing your problems like this:

Problem > Why > Reason > Why > Reason > Why > Core Problem > Fix

Example:

You are unhealthy > You are fat > You eat too much > You like eating > You like good tasting foods > Easy to get source of dopamine > You need to replace it > You start smoking.

Now look, I REALLY WANT YOU TO SPEND A WHOLE DAY ON THIS.

Step two: Fixing the problems

Now that you got your root causes, you are going to fix them. Little by little. Baby steps if you get me.

Basically do your most sustainable best, or try to aim for something way higher so even if you fail you still get something.

Example:
If you want to do 45 minutes of cardio daily, try doing 2.5 hours instead. Even if you give up halfway through, it’s still over one hour of cardio.

Now do this for 2/3 days and get to step 3 (maintain step 2 while doing step 3)

STEP 3 AND LAST: Interest / Hobby that your day revolves around

Basically, in a shitty life you always need an anchor to revolve your life around.

I will explain this with an example, and then explain why it matters.

Hobby: Gaming

Excluding your 8 hours of daily work / school five days a week, you will tell yourself this:

"I will play my favorite computer game for 2 hours a day"

Now, you will set a few rules:

  • Has to be 2 non-stop hours
  • Can't do unless you finished tasks
  • If you don’t game for the day, punish yourself (1000 push ups for example)

Now, when you get home from school / work / whatever, you know that you need to finish all your tasks: cleaning, making / eating food, showering, WHATEVER HELPS YOU FIX YOUR PROBLEMS etc BEFORE you game.

You also know you have to do this otherwise you will both not play games and relax, and have to do 1000 pushups.

Now let me explain how this helps.

Basically when you struggle with derealization, you often stop thinking about time and space normally, and this makes you unable to do basic tasks.

By anchoring yourself around some fun activity or task, you are basically making sure that you have to understand real time and space.
Doing all these things should help you fix your problems.

Nice thread. How could someone spend an entire day though writing problems down? I could spend 40 minutes at most doing that imo
