How to pickpocket/defend against other pickpockets?

Going to Europe (Greece and Italy). I don’t plan to pickpocket but I don’t want to get pickpocketed either.

I have a little pickpocketing experience since I found it cool but I never stole anything because I’m not a brokey and it’s a sin.

How to defend against other pickpockets?
