1. Nose breathing - mouth breathing is known for being associated with downward growth, also known as adenoids face and its no wonder because adenoids restrict nose breathing
1.1 Tongue posture aka mewing - this falls basically at the same category as nose breathing as it is essential for forward growth
2. Posture - Also extremely important, forward head posture for example basically forces pressure on ur skull which you do not want
3. Strong masseter muscles - Done by chewing and the chewing should primarily be from hard food and meat

Very honorable mentions: Correct diet habits from the mother of the baby during pregnancy, and breastfeeding, which helps the baby develop correct tongue posture.

Obviously this should be followed in childhood, if you are already downgrown you most likely already developed a narrow palate, narrow airways etc and you will need myofunctional therapy and expansion to stop it from continuing, but you will not gain significant reversal of it without surgery
