Only legit "step" that has helped me is studying in a place where I don't usually do anything else, you can try that.

If you have a laptop or computer download anki, and learn how to use it. If you only have a phone or tablet you may have to pay for it. It uses spaced repetition and active recall to help you memorize information. It worked for me to study short term too.

Go through your source material and make flashcards for everything you think you’ll need to know.

Worked for me before I got on meds with moderate to severe adhd, but obviously meds make it much easier.

For something like calculus or chemistry, you’re just gonna mostly have to practice thoughever.
