I have a narrow palate, functional shift, misaligned midline, crooked teeth, snoring, mouth breathing during sleep and a 6 teeth smile (ideal is 12, I have half of that.)

How do I convince them to give me a palate expander

(Those who say you need an ortho, they will referr you to an Ortho for any problems.)

This will be the 3rd time I have told them that I have those issues that I listed and a narrow palate but they kelt saying its normal and nothing to worry about.

How do I get them to actually take it seeiously and give me MARPE or something?

Go in, be very polite but don’t come off as an idiot, don’t come off as arrogant (both are extremes)

1. Mention palate expander and see if it’s a normal treatment option for your palate (like if you’re truly narrow). Do this after they assess you and tell you what they found.

2. When they (probably) say no, you just gotta be prepared to cover the cost and push for it, say it’s something u rly want. If they brush you off after you REALLY push and tell them you’re serious (you gotta be VERBAL here, it’s key), just say thanks and dip.

3. Bounce around orthos until someone cool says yes.

A. Orthos in USA are fucking rich and privileged they will turn you down so they don’t have to deal with BS (most of them are js farming braces and invisalign for $$$$), same thing applies to orthos in public health systems except in their case they are literally government robots and the gov is telling u to fuck off cuz it ain’t necessary

B. Some orthos like to do cool shit w palate expanders and maxilla suture expanders, u just gotta find them and they will typically work privately if you are in a public health system

C. All of this is pointless if you’re in a public health system, or if you’re in a private health system w/o $$$. Private health insurance will not cover it unless ortho signs off, so u gotta find a cool ortho.

This is probably your best bet. If you rly want a palate expanders you will get one don’t stress, but if you give up after 1 appointment where they say no you never really wanted one in the first place.
