So, there was this study about the "rise of sexless men" which claimed that 30% of men had no sex in a year. (Based on self-reporting by the surveyed men)
I think the year of reference for the study was 2020.
Now, I don't buy this number at all. In fact, i think it's closer to 50%. And there's basically two reasons for that in my opinion:
1) Social desirability bias: Even under anonymous circumstances many people still answer surveys/studies in a way that conforms with what is considered desirable by their environment. Especially for us men, being sexless comes with social stigma. So it's to be expected that more than the 30% that admitted to being sexless are actually sexless.
2) Online Dating Apps are the only objective data we have on matching rates between men and women. And there we can clearly see that about 80% of men are considered ugly and undesirable.
Ofc dating apps do not represent real life 1:1. We do know that some of the men who are considered undesirable on dating apps DO end up with relationships in real life.
These and many other observations (which i won't include here for reasons of brevity) make me believe that the percentage of sexless men is closer to 50% rather than 30%. And i believe that they havent only been sexless for a year, but longer than that.
Thoughts?
