Yea, I'm lowkey a nerd on the definition of emo because I'm really into it. Emo comes from emocore which comes from emotional hardcore. Basically harcore with deeper and more personal lyrics. That's how emo came about. In the 2000s Jimmy eat world came up and they were a pop punk/emo fusion band. Record labels then started trying to commercialize emo music with pop punk bands thus mall emo was born. The bands were made to wear clothes reminiscent of some post hardcore bands and that's how "emo fashion" came about. But really it was just a scene based fashion style wrongly labeled emo.
