According to bluepillers beauty is completely subjective. We all know that isn't true. But we also all know that PSL ratings vary a lot, and that shouldn't be the case if beauty was completely objective.

Okay, so we know that beauty isn't completely objective or subjective, it's somewhere in the middle, that is rather obvious. But what exactly is objective and subjective about beauty?

This question got me thinking a lot. And this post by @Deliciadecu really opened my eyes.

You can't rate beauty because it's a science which no one has a full understanding of, and can't possibly define the level on which each unwanted feature on its many levels of severity impacts the beauty of someone.

I agree with him. And the part that helped me with my realisation is this one:

You can't possibly define the level of which each unwanted feature on its many levels of severity impacts the beauty of someone

That's it! That's what's subjective about beauty! How much value each person puts on each specific feature.

Whether a feature itself is attractive or not is pretty damn objective: Hooked noses and recessed chins are unwanted by everyone, but some will find hooked noses more unattractive than average, and some will find recessed chins not that bad. It's still bad, everyone agrees those features are unwanted, what varies is the degree of that.

And I think that has a lot to do with our own flaws. For example, manlets often go for girls almost as tall as them, even though there are much shorter girls available, equally as attractive facially and that they would have more of a chance with. So why would they go for the taller ones? Don't they want to feel big next to their girl?
Yeah, but the primal subconscious desire for your kids to not have the same flaw as you is even stronger than that.

I often see that guys who are insecure about a certain feature, will look for that feature first and foremost in a girl.
For example, if a guy has a bad nose, he will look for a girl with a perfect nose, and will put much more value on noses than a guy with a straight nose. Yes, the guy with a straight nose will still find hooked noses unattractive, but for him it will be minor thing that he will easily overlook if the girl has other features that he likes

The features that you care the most about, are your worst features. The features that you are the most indifferent to, are your best features.
You might not even want children, but this is a primal desire beyond your control, the desire to get rid of your bad traits on the next generation.

That's why our ratings vary so much. And that's also why the ratings don't vary more than 1-2 points, the amount of value that is placed in each feature varies, but not that much. And what is considered good and bad is also objective.

Now I finally understand why good looking ethnics often settle for ugly whites. They want their kids to have what they don't. And they don't place as much value on the other features because they got that covered, or at least they think they do.

Very good thread, I believe I agree with you both, except on the mate-choice process that you described, overall good features will still be attractive even if the person already has it. Same applies for unwanted features procreating with someone who has an unwanted feature that you don't is still a risk.
