2008 was an interesting time to be in high school.

We had the internet (and social media)...but the internet and social media were a lot more primitive.

Smartphones had come out only a year prior. Most students didn't own a smartphone (just flip phones or sidekicks). So there wasn't a culture of high schoolers being buried in their phones yet (perhaps that's why I was able to flirt with her in person)
