My oneitis differed from my other high school crushes in the sense that I was into her for more than just looks. She also differed from my other high school crushes in the sense that she acted receptive to my flirts.

Alas, I never dared to officially shoot my shot with her. To this day, I have no idea what her answer would have been had I asked her out.

2008 was an interesting time to be in high school.

We had the internet (and social media)...but the internet and social media were a lot more primitive.

Smartphones had come out only a year prior. Most students didn't own a smartphone (just flip phones or sidekicks). So there wasn't a culture of high schoolers being buried in their phones yet (perhaps that's why I was able to flirt with her in person)

Not only did this foid cause me to stay silent about my crushes for the rest of high school (for humiliating me at 15); she caused me to stay silent about my crushes until I was 20!

Which means in addition to robbing me of the opportunity to be with my high school oneitis I began flirting with at 16, there were probably college opportunities she robbed me of too.
