Why? What are the side effects

Antidepressants probably won't make you happy. They just suppress the feeling of happiness and other feelings like arousal. They aren't guaranteed to work, might make it worse and you can't take them for like over 2 years without risking big side effects. They can cause long term or even permanent side effects.

You can take them if you believe that your life is bad because your depression doesn't allow you to have motivation to try fun stuff. In that case you might feel okay and start living life and have actual long term benefits.

If you're living an actual good life while still feeling sad then there is nothing they will do. The antidepressants don't give you happiness, instead they suppress your feelings

OCD and depression are a bit different though. With OCD the medications you can stop the feeling of stress. That's pretty much all you need to feel happy with ocd. When taking antidepressants for depression it just stops you from feeling suicidal. The won't give you happiness

I worked out regularly, was learning a language and drawing daily, studied hard and had a social life while still managing a part time job on the weekends. My sleep and nutrition were also on point with me finally reaching at least 8 hours of sleep daily. All that to be thrown away when I existential thoughts started filling my mind up 24/7 and paralysing me from doing anything.
