All my life I hated school and performed purely in it. Grade 11, my average was a 60.

Then in grade 12, my average was a 96.

What changed?

Literally nothing, I started studying slightly more yes but I firmly believe my iq shot up from grade 11 to 12, problems that were hard to be in June, I remember looking at them at the start of semester in September and thinking they were really easy (keep in mind I didn’t study over the break or anything).

I was one of the dumbest people in class, and in the span of a year strictly due to genetics, I became one of the smartest. True nerds don’t work harder than you, they just let their genetics carry them (water).

Yeah well your IQ simply couldn’t have changed that drastically ( becomes nearly fully stable at 12)

So the likely explanation is that you simply studied a bit more. School is ridiculously easy so even a bit of extra studying makes a huge difference.

Just wait until you do actually something hard like a top STEM course. Then you’ll see.

I’m in university right now (third year) and dude everything is easy asf tbh, every course someone has said is hard I found easy.

Also that makes sense but I do think there has to be some sort of mental change for that change to occur, I didn’t study that much dude and like my base level of understanding of let’s say maths just improved a lot, it just all started clicking if that makes sense

STEM is a meme too. Life is a meme in general.

Yeah sadly I’m giga high inhib and have no motivation to do anything so I guess my mind genetics suck, I would rather be dumb and happy then be theoretically “smart” but be like what I am right now

Sometimes it just fully clicks, especially with maths or physics. It takes your brain a bit of thinking and then you finally get it.

Just like riding a bike at school. A random drastic increase in IQ like you’re suggesting is simply impossible at your age.

Either way be happy and just continue doing well.

I guess the main point of my post was that it truly doesn’t matter how hard you try, someone with a better brain will just win (water).

Had a friend that studied all day, proper nerd his entire life, I always did better than him and my life didn’t even revolve around school

If you really don't know what to study do not go to an university. At least I wouldn't. Do a trade or try something else.

Life is a MEME if you don't study a degree who has maths on it
Luckily I do but I agree.

Only exception would be Law or PPE at a strong uni

I’m doing comp sci and math rn, I wanted to do trades but my parents didn’t let me, I don’t mind cs too much though, its good money I guess.

I think being able to work for very long durations can really set you apart, but the funny thing is that’s also dictated by your brain.

Brain health and ability is literally everything. Also you can have shitty depression and irrespective of your ability, it’s over.

Unis are always open. They’d gladly take your money anytime tbh

Nigga you studied and got better grades?

In... high school?

Why are you posting about genetics and IQ :lul:

Literally not a meme for general intelligence or success but okay
Engineer student cope. Engineering graduates can't even get a job in UK let alone earn more than £30k :feelskek:. Tell me what's the point of getting in debt, wasting away 3 or more years and aging due to stress forlittle in return.

I call it a meme because it's something anyone could do if they were to put in the work and the time necessary. You don't have to be intelligent to get a stem degree especially nowadays.

Yeah if you force me to do something (school literally) I do really good, in my free time, I am a full time rotter and I hate it, it’s like I can’t even help myself.

Well in university too now lol, and I don’t study as much as other people, like a whole lot less.

The point of my post isn’t to boast at all, I literally hate my mind and think I’m nerfed really hard by it. The point was well the “just study hard bro” pill is stupid most of the time, you either got it or you don’t.

It can be good money. But only for select ones. Your paper will mean nothing start getting work experience via internships or whatever if you want to have a job related to what you studied.

The degrees are looked at favourably by top industries. Especially financial firms, insurance firms ect.

STEM isn’t only engineering as well.

Also if you’re capable, engineer can pay well. There are certain fields that pay very well Do you agree @imontheloose

My brother did a chemical engineering degree at Cambridge and he does nothing to do with engineering now (data analysis with/and finances). My dad also did the same thing; my dad actually still works as a chemical engineer till this day and earns plenty money.

Many need to realise engineers aren’t really awarded for their minimal work of emailing people on the plant or running EHS critical procedures with the operators (something I do now). It is a sector of work where you essentially get rewarded big time if you can come up with something yourself. And that is something you are more than capable of if you studied it.

It’s a great degree to get simply because of how versatile it is. You don’t need to be an engineer, you can get into many fields of work. I know someone who got into law with his engineering degree.

This only multiplies with a greater university accreditation.

Too many people on here are simply coping. IMO, if you’re good at what you do, in nearly every field, you’ll be successful. It really comes down to that.

Yes. Pretty simply. Those good at their field, succeed. It’s a rather easy concept to grasp. Now, I’m not saying it is an easy completion as such nor am I saying each field is equally as likely to yield equal benefit; I am saying, however, that success and brilliance in your field are as close as you can get to determining your own projection than anything else. Linear may be a push, but they are dependant to a degree.

What do you think is the best area of engineering to make money, especially here in the UK ? Oil and gas ?

Tough question. Mechanical will always be there; I know chemical engineers are actually not needed as much as many process plants are shutting down.

Electrical engineering is good. So is mechanical. They’re quite self-explanatory.

High voltage stuff is what will get you the big bucks. Civil is the bastard child of engineering.

Manufacturing seems to still be the right industry if that’s what you’re asking.

What about electronic engineering? Like creating circuits and capacitors ?

I put that with electrical. You study it with electrical engineering almost always. I know some universities separate the two into a single name called EEE instead of EE, but the rest combine them either into optional or mandatory (usually the case) modules.

Have you enjoyed the degree so far?
