Last December (2024) I wrote out this concept for an fps game similar to war of rights but for the Franco Prussian war
I didn’t finish it but these are for the battle of wissembourg august 1870
It’s like the same as Antietam w war of rights, or ig it’d be more comparable to like Harper’s ferry or south mountain
It took hours of research to put all this together nigga since there’s such limited information on this particular battle, but I wanted to do it in chronological order so I started w this one

Franco-Prussian War

Battle of Wissembourg

August 4, 1870

Schweigen Heights

8:15-10:00

Summary:

At 8:15 the 10th Royal Bavarian Jäger Battalion and the 3rd Battalion of the 5th Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment assaulted Wissembourg from the Schweigen Heights. They were supported by 3 artillery batteries on the Schweigen. Soon enough, they were met by the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 1st Algerian Rifle Regiment and the 2nd Battalion of the French 74th Line Infantry Regiment. The Algerian and French defenders were entrenched in the breastworks, ditches, hedges, and natural defenses in the front of the village. Both sides suffered casualties as German artillery rained on Wissembourg, French rifles fired upon advancing Bavarians, and costly Algerian counterattacks attempted to reach the Schweigen Heights. The Bavarians were unable to break through the Franco-Algerian defenses, leaving them to await reinforcements. Reinforcements eventually arrived and, as French and Algerian soldiers were diverted to the defense of the Altenstadt Station against the Prussians, the Bavarians renewed their assault, successfully entering Wissembourg through the Landau Gate by noon.

Order of Battle

France

2nd Battalion, 74th Line Infantry Regiment

French Algeria

3rd Battalion, 1st Algerian Rifle Regiment

Bavaria

10th Royal Bavarian Jäger Battalion

3rd Battalion, 5th Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment

2 Artillery Batteries on the Schweigen

French Objectives

2nd Battalion, 74th Regiment

Defend Wissembourg. Stay entrenched within the town, using the breastworks and walls. Prevent the Bavarians from breaching the Landau Gate.

Algerian Objectives

3rd Battalion, 1st Algerian Regiment

Defend Wissembourg. Stay entrenched in the ditches and hedges in front of the walls. Prevent the Bavarians from reaching the Landau Gate. Counterattack if possible.

Bavarian Objectives

10th Jäger Battalion

Assault Wissembourg. Reach and breach the Landau Gate. Repulse any Algerian counterattacks and penetrate French defenses.

3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment

Same as 10th Jäger Battalion.

Results:

If the Algerians successfully counterattack and push the Bavarians back to the Schweigen, the action ends with Franco-Algerian victory.

If the Algerians and French successfully defend Wissembourg and prevent the Bavarians from entering the Landau Gate, the action ends with Franco-Algerian victory.

If the Bavarians successfully assault Wissembourg and enter the Landau Gate, the action ends with Bavarian victory.

Notes:

If the Bavarians are defeated, the battle proceeds to the next action, in which the 10th Jäger Battalion and the 3rd Battalion of the 5th Regiment are reinforced by the 3rd Battalions of the 11th and 14th Bavarian Regiments.

Landau Gate

11:00-12:00

Lauter Lines

8:30-9:30

Summary:

After seizing Altenstadt with minimal resistance, the 5th Jäger Battalion set its focus on the Altenstadt Station, just outside of Wissembourg. Before they could advance upon the station, they were met by heavy defensive fire from Algerian soldiers on the outskirts of Altenstadt. The Algerians were supported by two French artillery batteries on the Geisburg. The Algerians were entrenched in the early modern Lauter lines, consisting of breastworks, ditches, and natural defenses along the Lauter river; allowing them to lay down rifle fire on the advancing Prussians. The Prussians were bombarded by rifle and artillery fire, causing heavy casualties, including the Prussian Major. The 5th Battalion received reinforcements from the 58th Regiment to support the assault, forcing the Algerians to withdraw to Altenstadt Station.

Order of Battle

French Algeria:

2nd Battalion, 1st Algerian Rifle Regiment

1 Artillery Battery on the Geisburg

1 Mitrailleuse Battery on the Geisburg

Prussia:

1st Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 5

1st Battalion, 3rd Posen Infantry Regiment No. 58

2nd Battalion, 3rd Posen Infantry Regiment No. 58

Algerian Objectives

2nd Battalion, 1st Algerian Regiment

Defend the approach to the Altenstadt Station. Inflict as many casualties as possible upon the Prussians. Counterattack if possible.

Prussian Objectives

5th Jäger Battalion:

Assault the Algerian defenders and force them to withdraw to Altenstadt Station. Repulse any counterattacks and inflict heavy casualties upon the Algerians. Continue the assault for as long as possible, holding out until reinforcements arrive.

1st Battalion, 58th Regiment:

After 30 minutes, reinforce and support the 5th Battalion’s assault. If the 5th Battalion collapses, continue the assault until the Algerians withdraw.

2nd Battalion, 58th Regiment:

Same as 1st Battalion.

Results:

If the Algerians successfully defend their positions with limited casualties, the action ends in Algerian victory.

If the Algerians counterattack successfully and force all Prussian forces to withdraw, the action ends in Algerian victory.

If the 5th Jäger Battalion forces an Algerian withdrawal, the action ends with Prussian victory.

If the 5th Jäger Battalion collapses, the Prussians are not defeated. However, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 58th Regiment must then force the Algerians to withdraw. If they succeed, the action ends with Prussian victory. If they fail, the action ends with Algerian victory.

Notes:

At 9:00, after 30 minutes of fighting, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 58th Regiment become available.

1 Artillery Battery = 6 cannons

1 Mitrailleuse Battery = 6 machine guns

Altenstadt Station

10:00-11:00

Summary:

As the Prussians advanced upon Wissembourg, the Algerians entrenched themselves in the defenses and buildings at Altenstadt Station. The 2nd Battalion of the French 74th Regiment launched a sortie to support the Algerian soldiers in an attempt to disperse the assaulting Prussians. The battalion was met with heavy Prussian rifle fire, forcing them to fall back into Wissembourg.

Order of Battle

France

2nd Battalion, 74th Line Infantry Regiment

1 Artillery Battery at Altenstadt Station

French Algeria

1st Battalion, 1st Algerian Rifle Regiment

2nd Battalion, 1st Algerian Rifle Regiment

Haguenau Gate

11:00-12:00

Sortie on the Geisburg

12:30-13:00

Summary:

The Prussians launch an attack on the Geisburg Castle, as each battalion storms the hill with artillery support. The castle is defended by the French, who have taken up positions in the castle and trenches outside of it.

As the Prussians are attacking, the 2nd Battalion of the French 74th Regiment launches a counterattack. It fails and the Prussians continue their assault.

The Prussian assault falters due to heavy French rifle fire from the castle. Prussian soldiers take cover in the trenches outside the castle.

Order of Battle

France:

1st Battalion, 74th Line Infantry Regiment

1st Battalion, 50th Line Infantry Regiment

Prussia:

1st Battalion, 7th King’s Grenadier Regiment

2nd Battalion, 7th King’s Grenadier Regiment

French Objectives

1st Battalion, 74th Regiment:

Attack the Prussian forces and force them to disperse before they can launch a coordinated assault.

1st Battalion, 50th Regiment:

Defend the trenches outside the castle while the 2nd Battalion attacks. Provide support if needed.

Prussian Objectives

1st Battalion, 7th Regiment:

Repulse the French attack and continue the assault upon the Geisburg. Seize the trenches.

2nd Battalion, 7th Regiment:

Support the 1st Battalion.

Results:

If the French attack successfully disperses Prussian forces, the action ends with French victory.

If the attack fails, the French must defend the trenches outside the castle. If they succeed, the action ends with French victory. If they fail, the action ends with Prussian victory.

If the Prussians repulse the French attack, they continue the assault upon on the Geisburg.

If the Prussians fail to reach the trenches, the action ends with French victory. If the Prussians succeed in seizing the trenches, the action ends with Prussian victory.

Notes:

The ‘trenches’ outside of the castle can be more accurately defined as breastworks and natural defenses situated on the outskirts of the castle and along the hill. The images below provide a rough idea.

Aftermath:

The Prussian 7th Regiment receives reinforcements from the 5th Jäger Battalion to its right, and the 47th and 58th Regiments to its left. The 41st Brigade assisted in the envelopment of French forces and attacked from behind the castle. At 2:00 pm, the French withdrew from the castle and retreated.
