I always thought I was born with naturally black hair, until I looked at pics of me as a little kid

I don’t know why but my hair literally looked brown. Even today, when I go out in the sun my hair shines like a auburn copper colour

Yes, it's possible. I have relatives with brown hair and while they get older it gets fully black.

I remember reading somewhere that, the genes that control brown hair, skin tone light/dark eyes pigmentation (eumelanin) do not "turn on" until a certain age.

this is why alot of kids who have light hair grow up into adulthood with brown or black hair and darker skin. Hexum in his childhood pics has light blonde hair but it turned into a dark dirty blonde by his 20s.

This is more common among europeans than ethnics iirc. White people have more pheomelanin and more sensitive towards melanin changes unlike ethnics are already born with a lot of eumelanin pigment in their skin already.

Black remains black until you are old and melanin can't be produced no more in hair follicles. Hair always goes darker never lighter.

Yes, it's definitely not common in non-whites. I personally didn't experience it.

And if we're going to very technical, then black hair doesn't really exist. It's just extremely dark brown. Hold a piece of your hair and aim it towards the light and you'll see what I mean. Same goes for eye color, black eyes don't exist, they're also just very, very dark brown.

true, most "brown hair" people that we call brown hair isn't true brown cause it looks more black

Yes. People with black eyes and hair are just very dark shade of brown. Same applies to animals. Black fur or black eyes is just very dark shade of grey.

It's what usually happens when your parents or relatives have a mix of blond and dark hair.

I didn’t even think about animals but it makes sense that it would apply to them as well.
