For example, if a girl has a crush on you (imagine, in college), her, and her friends, will make you to know it in some blatanly obvious way, but they'll want you to start the conversation (if they aren't in your class, of course). In my experience, the most obvious approach I had, was one ugly me that kinda harrased me in a D'n D club. But that only happened once. And if a girl likes you, she'll make It obvious, but will wait for you to do the move (in my own experience).
