Vietnam's third-quarter gross domestic product grew by 13.67% from a year earlier, the fastest pace in decades, boosted by robust manufacturing and exports, and a low base effect. During the same period last year, Vietnam's GDP had contracted by more than 6%, when the country’s commercial hub Ho Chi Minh City was under strict lockdown, and production at many factories in important southern industrial zones was severely affected. Growth of the Southeast Asian manufacturing powerhouse stuttered at less than three percent for two consecutive years due to the pandemic. Before Covid-19, Vietnam was a success story among Asian economies, posting a growth of seven percent in 2019. According to General Statistics Office, the economy grew by 8.83 percent in the first nine months of 2022, the fastest expansion since 2011. According to a World Bank report last month, Vietnam's GDP is forecast to surge from an estimated 2.6 percent in 2021 to 7.5 percent in 2022.
