I overestimated the objectivity of the average person

The more I interact with people on the internet the more I realize that I severely overestimated the objectivity of the average person. The average person does not even attempt to form their worldview based on statistical data or hard evidence, but based on their own emotional biases and what they want to be true. They dismiss any stats, studies, or actual hard evidence simply because it contradicts their biases which they usually cannot even back up with hard evidence.
